Gentle Baby & Toddler Sleep Tips from a Sleep Consultant (Ages 0-6)
As a sleep consultant, I get asked all the time what products I personally love or recommend to families. Over the year, I've found a handful of items that truly make bedtime smoother, more predictable and more bonding for you and your little one.
If you are trying to build a peaceful bedtime routine, these are my favorite gentle baby and toddler sleep tools (ages 0-6) that I use every day with the families I support.
This isn't sponsored. The link at the end is an Amazon affiliate link, but everything I mention here is something I truly use, love, and recommend

Bedtime Books I Truly Love
Bedtime books are on of my favorite parts of the routine. They're such an important moment to bond with your child - quiet, close, cozy.
I like books that are short, sweet, and calming, especially because the entire bedtime routine should be around 30 minutes.
Some of my favorites are:
Love you forever
Time for bed
If animals kissed goodnight
I love you to the moon and back
They all have that warm "day is done" bedtime feeling.
I love sitting on a rocking chair or on the rug with only a lamp on, reading with the child on my lap. Doing this after bath, keeps the enviroment soft and helps your little one wind down gently.
White Noise That Actually Helps
White noise is one of the most effective tools for improving baby sleep and reducing night wakings.
One thing I love about the Hatch is how versatile it is. You can control it from your phone or simply tap it when your hands are full.
I always remind parents that white noise should be similar to the sound of a running shower - steady, soothing, and safe.
For younger babies, this mimics the sound enviroment inside the womb
For older babies and toddlers, it becomes both a sleep cue and way to block out outside noises - siblongs, pets, dishes, TV, etc.
As children grow, you can also use the Hatch as color cue clock:
Red= stay in bed
Green= It's okay to get up.
There are also travel size white noise machines I love for staying consistent on trips.
My Favorite Sleep Sacks
Sleep sacks are one of my must-have bedtime tools. I especially love wool sleep sacks because they are breathable, cozy and naturally temperature-regulating.
Wool is truly an all-season fabric:
Keeps babies warm in winter.
Keeps them cool in summer.
Sleep sacks also grow with your child over the years:
Snug version for 0-3M
Standard sleep sacks (3-18M)
Toddler style with legs
I also love cotton and bamboo options. They are soft, breathable, and gentle on the skin.
Once a sleep sack goes on, it becomes a predictable cue:
"We are getting ready for sleep now"
Loveys for Comfort (6+ Months)
When your child is old enough, a muslin lovey can be such a cozy bedtime companion. It adds comfort, familiarity, and emotional security.
I usually recommend loveys after a baby can roll back and forth confidently. Typically around 6-7 months
A little trick: parents can add their scent to the lovey, and many babies find that so comforting, even as they grow into toddler years.
Creating a Dark, Sleep-Friendly Room
A dark sleep environment is one of the EASIEST and fastest ways to improve baby and toddler sleep.
I love using blackout curtains or portable blackout covers. Especially for naps, bright rooms or early morning light.
Darkness helps:
Support melatonin production
Reduce early wakes
Limit visual distractions
Signal "dark = sleep time"
For families who decide to roomshare, the SlumberPod is truly convenient. It creates a private, dark sleep space for the baby where they can't see you but you can still use your space.
Your baby gets their own area, which reduces stimulation and night wakings.
It's also perfect for:
Travel
Early mornings in bright rooms
